Direct Current BV Wins NENnovation Award 2019

Direct Current BV - "DC as the carrier of our future energy system"
Winner category Standards committee members / customers.

The jury believes that the social impact of this innovative concept is very large. DC (direct current) is a very promising solution for the gigantic sustainable energy challenges. The advantages of DC are seen worldwide in the electrification tasks that we face in the coming decades.

The jury is impressed by the enthusiasm to come up with the technical solutions that are needed to make the transition to DC and thereby through cooperation in the Netherlands get the entire world in agreement. ABN-AMRO's Circl is one of the first buildings with DC in the Netherlands. Expo 2022 Floriade Almere is also about to apply it.

What the jury regards as very strong is that Direct Current BV, Mr Stokman, uses standardisation in the international playing field to further the innovation worldwide. DC has the potential to become a compatible system worldwide. The Netherlands has become a global leader in DC thanks to the effort of Direct Current BV.

We have entered our groundbreaking innovation of our DC system. Our DC technology is based on our innovations the Current Router and Current/OS that makes a DC microgrid possible, efficient and most of all, safe to use! Our DC system is (being) implemented in many projects now and more coming up soon. We are proud to have our DC system implemented in major projects, for example, Circl Pavilion of ABN AMRO Bank Amsterdam, Highway N470 produces Energy, and Public lighting by CityTec. This is the third year that the NENnovation Awards of the Dutch standardisation committee are being presented. During the World Standards Day event by the NEN, on October 11, 2019, in the Fokker Terminal in The Hague, the award ceremony will take place and the winner will be announced. There are 3 categories: 1. clients/NEN committee members, 2. start-ups, 3. Students. In each category there will be shown a video pitch of the top 5 nominated contestants.

20-09-2019 Woensdagmiddag 18 september stonden de genomineerden voor de NENnovation Awards vol overtuiging te pitchen voor de vijfkoppige jury. De genomineerden uit de doelgroep commissieleden/klanten, start-ups en studenten lichtten hun innovatie aan hen toe. Daaruit is nu een top drie gekozen. Tijdens de viering van World Standards Day op 11 oktober worden de winnaars bekend gemaakt.

De NENnovation Award heeft sinds de start van World Standards Day al een aantal mooie winnende projecten voorbij zien komen. Dit is het derde jaar dat de uitreiking van de NENnovation Awards plaatsvindt. De jury bestaat uit: Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship, Koninklijke NLingenieurs, Octrooicentrum Nederland, Stichting BlueDot (TU Delft) en NEN. Dit jaar heeft de jury weer krachtige projecten gezien die veelbelovend zijn voor de toekomst. De jury wil iedereen die heeft meegedaan aan de NENnovation Awards bedanken voor de inzendingen, en in het bijzonder de deelnemers die hun innovatie hebben gepitcht en toegelicht.

NEN maakt met trots de genomineerden bekend die nog steeds in de race zijn voor de NENnovation Awards van 2019.
In de categorie normcommissieleden is de volgende top drie gekozen in alfabetische volgorde: Bunge Loders Croklaan, Direct Current, Royal HaskoningDHV.
Voor de categorie start-ups zijn de volgende kandidaten geselecteerd: Asbetter Acids, Hydraloop Sytems en Rainbeer.
De laatste categorie voor de NENnovation Awards zijn de studenten. Daaruit is de volgende selectie gemaakt: Francesca Grazian (PhD Student Electrical Power Engineering) Team AeroDelft, Team Silverwing.

Er zijn zes partijen die een eervolle melding krijgen. Het gaat om de volgende partijen in de drie categorieën in alfabetische volgorde: Emma Baan (student Werktuigbouwkunde Windesheim), Irene Kamara (PhD student Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology, and Society) Noordzeeboerderij, Prodaptive, Provincie Noord-Holland, Ticketguard. NEN bedankt deze partijen voor hun enorme inzet.
