DC Congress Groot Gelijk DC=DECENT 2018
June 15, 2018
The second conference on DC was very successful. The DC Foundation Netherlands, together with KIEN Innovation Masters, TKI Urban Energy and CityTec, organized the DC Congress Groot Gelijk DC=DeCent on 15 June 2018 in Nieuwegein.
Top key-note speakers presented a diverse picture of the current state of DC and DC grids in the Netherlands: Doekle Terpstra (UNETO-VNI chair), Ed Buddenbaum (Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate, Secretary of the Top Sector Energy) and Dr. ir. h.c. Rik W. De Doncker (Director of Institute for Power Electronics and Electrical Drives, RWTH Aachen University). In the afternoon there was a wide range of workshops and lectures by organizations and companies working on DC projects.
The visitors were in a good mood. The general impression was very positive about DC, unlike the first dc congress of the DC Foundation in 2014. Opinions have now changed from "DC has potential, but we have to see if it can be done" to "DC voltage is now possible and we want to do something with that!"
Harry Stokman of Direct Current BV was one of the mystery guests of whom the conference organization showed a video in which he talks about his vision on DC. According to Stokman, DC voltage is the accelerator of energy transition, it only requires a cultural change. He relates, "The Netherlands is number one in the field of DC, DC is about distribution and logistics and that happens to be in our genes." The biggest change in recent years is that we are no longer laughed at, but now all parties are in the process. voicing, let's see how we will get that done, what fun!"
